At the end of September, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro spoke to the National Constituent Assembly and proposed a new Anti-Blockade law, designed to combat the effects of the brutal and cruel U.S. economic war on Venezuela. In this speech he explains then proposed changes and the motivation behind them.

On Sunday, Dec. 6, the Venezuelan people will vote to elect the new deputies of the National Assembly. This election is enormously important for the Bolivarian Revolution. The progressive forces are mobilizing nationwide to win back the assembly from right-wing politicians who won the majority in December 2015. The rhetoric from the Venezuelan right-wing and the U.S. government which declares any elections in Venezuela as “undemocratic” ignores the long history of adherence to constitutional principles and participatory democracy led by the working class grassroots.The December 6 election has the potential to end the constitutional crisis provoked by the counter-revolution by retaking the National Assembly for the Bolivarian Revolution.

Venezuelan forces have repelled at least two armed invasions of the country in recent days. “We have defeated them in the street, we have defeated them electorally, we have defeated them militarily… Because of this, they have left all their hope in a military intervention of the highest level… Our answer is this: Bolivarian Fury.” — President of the Constituent Assembly Diosdado Cabello.

The ANSWER Coalition, of which the Cuba and Venezuela Solidarity Committee is a part, condemns the latest acts of aggression against the government of President Nicolás Maduro and people of Venezuela, attempted by paramilitaries on May 3 near the coastal town of Macuto, and another thwarted infiltration today of eight terrorists, May 4, 40 miles west of Macuto, in Chuao near the sea. The Venezuelan authorities as of the evening of Monday, May 4, indicate that more plots may be unfolding, calling for maximum alert.
