The United States, a country with a $20 trillion economy, is waging a full-scale economic war against an island whose economy equals half of one percent of that — Cuba. The war has been going on for 60 years.

While Cuba has 2000 medical personnel fighting COVID-19 in 26 countries all around the world, the U.S. has intensified its attacks not just on Cuba, but on those very doctors and nurses. Meanwhile the movement to nominate those heroes for the Nobel Peace Prize continues to pick up steam.

Too many days have passed since the terrorist attack against the Cuban embassy building in Washington, which occurred in the early hours of April 30, and the United States government still has had no official contact about this hateful act with Cuban authorities in both Washington and Havana. Cuba has several advantages over many states, including free universal healthcare, the world’s highest ratio of doctors to population, and positive health indicators, such as high life expectancy and low infant mortality. Also, with a centrally planned, state-controlled economy, Cuba’s government can mobilize resources quickly. But Cuba faces problems as well, including the fact that COVID-19 tests cost around $50 each.
